Philippians 1:12- (NIV)

Paul’s Chains Advance the Gospel
12 Now I want you to know, brothers and sisters, that what has happened to me has actually served to advance the gospel.13 As a result, it has become clear throughout the whole palace guard and to everyone else that I am in chains for Christ. 14And because of my chains, most of the brothers and sisters have become confident in the Lord and dare all the more to proclaim the gospel without fear.

~ How have you been encouraged through someone else's struggle?
~ How might God be using a current struggle of yours to advance the good news of Jesus through you?  Will you surrender that situation to Him so that you can be used by Him?

Philippians 1:9-11 (NIV)

9 And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, 10 so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless for the day of Christ, 11 filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ—to the glory and praise of God.

~ Has your love continued to flourish or has it become stagnant?  How?
~ Will you pray the prayer from these verses for yourself and others today?

Philippians 1:7-8 (NIV)

7 It is right for me to feel this way about all of you, since I have you in my heart and, whether I am in chains or defending and confirming the gospel, all of you share in God’s grace with me. 8God can testify how I long for all of you with the affection of Christ Jesus.

~ Have your relationships changed since you started walking with God?  How has your relationship with God helped to bond you to others?
~ Do you find it difficult to defend and confirm the gospel in our world today? Why or why not?

3 I thank my God every time I remember you. 4 In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy 5 because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now, 6 being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.

~ Who will you thank God for today?
~ Do you find joy in praying for others? Why or why not?

Overview: Philippians

Philippi is a Greek city and the first town in Macedonia (a Roman province) where Paul established a church.  The traditional view is that Paul was writing this letter with the other Prison Epistles (Ephesians, Colossians, and Philemon) during his first imprisonment in Rome.  There are several reasons why Paul wrote this epistle: he expressed thanks, offered clarity and understanding on a decision he had made, informed the recipients about his situation in Rome, encouraged them to unity, and warned them against false teachers.  In this letter we will dig into some interesting incite into Paul, Christ humiliation and exaltation, and the major theme of pursuing Christlikeness, a passion of Paul in his own life.

~ As we get ready to dig into Philippians, how are you feeling: excited? nervous? frustrated? unsure?  How will you ask God to meet you there?
~ How would you most like to see God work in your life right now?

How It Works...

Are you looking to find a way to stay in the word through the summer?  Do you often find yourself setting out to read a book of the bible only to find yourself off track before you know it?  Would you like to join a group of people looking for the same thing, but just can't commit to another weekly night out of the house?  Or have so many plans through out the summer that it would be nearly impossible to stay on task?  Well then we have the answer for you... Welcome to Get Into The Word daily summer online bible study.

We are officially launching Monday, June 6th and continuing through Friday, August 26th.  During this study, we are going to read the books of Philippians and Colossians.  Each day (Monday-Friday) there will be a short scripture followed up by two study questions.  We encourage you to answer these questions in a journal each day.  If you feel lead, we would also love if you used the comments segment of each post  to reveal what God has put on your heart and partcipate in commenting back and forth with eachother to create community with one another.  You can also join as a follower or enter your email address into the field on the right to receive daily updates and reminders.

I hope that this is a great and useful tool for us to stay connected to God and to each other through out the hustle and bustle of the summer!  Should you have any questions, concerns, or suggestions, please don't hesitate to contact me directly at tiffanyantoun [at] gmail.com.

I look forward to hanging out with each of you here on this blog this summer!
