Let me start by confessing I am not a bible scholar. I have grown to love spending time with God in His word, but this wasn't always the case. As a new Christ follower, I found reading the bible to be very difficult and would often walk away from my attempts more discouraged than when I started. I soon realized I needed help.
There are two most important gifts God has given me that have been crucial in my journey through the bible: the Holy Spirit and my MacArthur Study Bible. That being said I have two bits of encouragement for you as you get started. First pray before you open your bible and attempt to read or study it. Invite the Holy Spirit to give you understading so that the words you read will come to life in you and not only penetrate your head but also your heart. Lastly, if you have not already, be sure to invest in a good study bible. I like to study from the New King James Version and New International Version but there are other versions to choose from as well. Do a little investigating and find the one that works best for you.
