14 Yet it was good of you to share in my troubles. 15 Moreover, as you Philippians know, in the early days of your acquaintance with the gospel, when I set out from Macedonia, not one church shared with me in the matter of giving and receiving, except you only; 16 for even when I was in Thessalonica, you sent me aid more than once when I was in need. 17 Not that I desire your gifts; what I desire is that more be credited to your account. 18 I have received full payment and have more than enough. I am amply supplied, now that I have received from Epaphroditus the gifts you sent. They are a fragrant offering, an acceptable sacrifice, pleasing to God.19 And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.
20 To our God and Father be glory for ever and ever. Amen.
~ What is your motive and attitude behind giving to the church or others? What does the bible say it takes for our gifts to be pleasing to God?
~ In what ways has God used others to meet your needs lately? How have you witnessed Gods faithfulness in this?
I think that, as it is in all areas of our life, God looks at the attitude of our heart and that is true in giving as well. The attitude we give in is very important. I usually love to give but I think that sometimes even though I'm happy to do it I am giving selfishly to make myself feel good. I know giving does feel good because we are made to love. I guess I struggle with giving when it really hurts...when it's not easy or fun but kind of scary. My mind and logic get in the way of my faith sometimes. I love reading this passage because the Philippians are a great example of giving faithfully even if it hurt. Please pray for me that I would give in faith with courage. I know God is helping me grow in this area but I still have far to go:)
